Here at Kingswood Designs, we strive to execute our client’s vision as close to perfect as possible. In a recent remodel, the current kitchen simply wasn’t serving the needs of our client anymore. Our client painted a picture of their dream kitchen, and we were happy to oblige:
Their family was growing, and the former kitchen felt restrictive and tight — opening up the layout was the first critical step into turning this into a beloved space once again.
Entertaining friends and family is a favorite past-time of the clients, so the flow and layout needed to accommodate such (not to mention, have ample counter space for sharing charcuterie boards and favorite cabernets over a few laughs).
The 19020s charm of the home was irreplaceable, and preserving the original, cozy appeal of their hardwood floors was imperative. We were proud to do so with a modern touch.
With our guidance and design expertise, our clients chose hardwood floors of the same size and color to keep the structural character of the home’s interior. To make it more cohesive, they were installed on a herringbone pattern in the kitchen – maintaining the original charm with a modern twist while expanding the space at the same time.
Approaching the Remodeling Process
While the kitchen is the centerpiece of this entire deluxe redesign project, we were given the opportunity to expand this remodel a bit further by redesigning the fireplace and master bathroom.
Kitchen
We have several options to create a large island in the kitchen, such as L-shaped, circular, and galley. In this space and for this family, the galley island was the best choice because it opens up any kitchen and offers a streamlined design – ideal for a growing family and dinner parties.
One side of the galley island provides ample bar-style seating for entertaining guests. The other side featured an under-the-counter beverage cooler and spacious cabinets to store and access items easily.
Hallmarks of the new kitchen are:
- Shiloh Cabinetry boasting Monarch Pulls in satin nickel
- Clear glass cabinets stacked to the ceiling with interior lighting
- Calacatta Classic Silestone countertops
- Galley island decorated with two waterfall legs
- Matte white tile backsplash on a subway staggered pattern
- Toe-kick lighting to highlight the herringbone hardwood floors
- Delta Essa kitchen faucet, as well as a separate EverPure filtered faucet for instant hot water

Fireplace
In redesigning the fireplace, the classic 1920s brightly colored windows framing the hearth were retained. Crossville Laminam Bianco Statuario Venato porcelain panels were installed from floor to ceiling on the fireplace itself to modernize it.

Master Bathroom
The master bathroom went through a complete makeover, transforming it into a place of relaxation. The old, worn-down look was replaced with a clean and classy design. Gone are the days of the small single bowl vanity, the master bathroom now has increased functionality with a double bowl vanity and installed LED lighting.
More stylish and elegant, this bathroom now has:
- Shiloh Quarter Sawn oak cabinetry
- Vanity toe-kick lighting
- Undermount rectangular white sink
- Snow White Quartz countertop with 3″ set-on backsplash
- 3/8″ clear glass custom shower door
- Linear shower drain with 12″ x 24″ continued porcelain tile to match the outside of the shower floor
- Marazzi Modern Oasis
- 4″ x 12″ Cava Gloss wall tile on a subway staggered pattern
- Delta Dryden Collection in polished chrome
