One of our favorite design trends is the Modern Farmhouse- welcoming, comfortable, and timelessly fresh. Everything you want your home to be! We recently remodeled a kitchen and two bathrooms in McMurray in this cozy chic style.
For this home, we envisioned a comfortable, relaxed farmhouse-inspired space with sophisticated modern touches such as clean lines, matte accents, and industrial light fixtures.
Kitchen Layout:
The kitchen renovation alone was a large undertaking! We removed a load-bearing wall which required an added support beam that was exposed. We wrapped the beam in distressed wood, custom stained for a rustic appearance. The previous kitchen floor was elevated, a feature that the homeowners elected to keep. The elevated floor was extended into the living area to give the kitchen added length. We also relocated the sink, dishwasher, and range, to create better functionality and more aesthetically pleasing space. Functionality is always an important factor, by removing walls and relocating appliances, the kitchen felt larger and allowed for more entertainment space.
Kitchen Details:
- Two-toned, herringbone patterned tile floor
- Two-toned, custom cabinetry
- Perimeter: Marsh Cabinetry’s Alpine paint on Maple Wood
- Islands: Marsh Cabinetry’s Autumn Stain on Maple Wood
- Floating Shelves: Marsh Cabinetry’s Autumn Stain on Maple Wood

- 48” Commercial Range

Master Bath:
The layout of the master bathroom stayed the same, but we refreshed the features and colors to compliment the style of the modern farmhouse kitchen. This included a new double bowl vanity with makeup area in the center and new tile flooring in a dark, rustic, wood finish. The shower was updated with new white, subway tile-lined with black grout and an accent niche and matching accent floor. We modernized the existing jacuzzi tub by replacing the tile tub-deck and adding new matte black fixtures.
Main Bath:
This once dark bathroom was brightened up with a new double bowl vanity, white subway tile shower with an accent stripe, a timeless black and white tile floor, and two new, custom stained, mirrors.
We enjoyed combining the natural elements of the traditional farmhouse style such as dark, rich wood tones and textures, with modern clean lines such as the herringbone floors and subway tile. The cool neutral palette of white, beige, silver, grey and black make these rooms appear fresh and open, which is exactly what we envisioned for these practical spaces. Mixing styles and textures gave this home the perfect balance of old and new.
